Evaluation Q3, what have you learned from audience feedback?
target audience moodboard
I created a mood board below that describes my target audience through their interests.
Q3, audience feedback.
According to Richard Kilborn, who is senior lecturer in the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of Stirling. He believes there are a number of ways that audiences use soaps and these uses are linked to the way a viewer will interpret the text.
Kilborn’s categories:
1. The Regular part of domestic routine and entertaining reward for work, this not relevant to my soap trailer as through each shot it is set in a different scenery with different characters and actions. Therefore there is no reflection of a domestic routine for the cast as I have designed the characters to live a young youthful spontaneous life. The image of the characters got a positive feedback from the audience as the audience clearly noticed that I was targeting teenagers and said that “the storyline was good and exciting”.
2. Launch pad for social and personal interaction, this is relevant to my soap website as on the homepage of the website they inform the audience about dates to put in their diary for example “BAFTAR AWARDS 2012 30th November” this is interacting with the audience telling them constantly about how to stay involved in the soap. Also displaying “Like our page on facebook for some exclusive goodies.” This in the same way is conversation between the soap and the audience. From my feedback I found that by including and highlighting these events and opportunities to win prizes the audience felt it was easy to stay locked with the soap. Which allows the soap to have the audience’s attention a lot of the time therefore constantly updating them with news ect.
3. Fulfilling individual needs: a way of choosing to be alone. This hasn’t really been found in my work as the trailers gives a tune in and join the party feel. Including the audience rather than singling them out. I think this is because of the youthful type of audience I am reaching out to.
4. Identification and involvement with characters and storylines. In my trailer the storyline includes a variety of problems young adults and students face. Therefore using actors matching the age of the audience allow the audience to feel at home. From my feedback I found that the audience were very interested by the storyline and felt like they could easily identify the targeted audience.

TRAILER FEEDBACK
Comparing my trailer to real media and the conventions real media products use for example; montage edits, title cards, brand identification, cliff hangers and enigma. I then gave my audience a questionnaire based on my trailer, asking how similar it was to real media and what the targeted audience thought of the purpose and storyline it carried.
Key Quotes that summarised my feedback were....
"suitable music for the theme, gender and age" |
"aimed at ages 15-20" |
"similar to SKINS on E4" |
"clear brand identity through out and information of date, time, channel were clear at the end" |
"title cards are used well for example "she" who is she? makes you want to watch to find out" |
From this feedback I made changes to my trailer as shown below. I changed the title cards, the text and how the titles entranced the screen. This all made my trailer more directed to the audience by addressing them more affective.
POSTER FEEDBACK
My first draft of my poster was compared to real media posters used for soaps and my targeted audience gave me this feedback, here I found ways of changing my poster in order for it to target my audience more effectively.
WEBSITE FEEDBACK
Feedback
after the audience found it hard to move around the webpage and found that there were too many Hyper links to understand, I brought together some of the different sections of the website to create pages that contained more information and visuals than before.
Q4, How did you use technologies in the research and planning construction and evaluation stages?
editing clips on imovie, watch below
below is a link to a prezi where I have showed how and why I operated technologies such as cameras, imovie, powerpoint and photoshop.
